How Much Does It Cost to Get a Windshield Replaced in Florida?
Getting a windshield replaced will cost you more, with an average price ranging anywhere from $170 to around $300, depending on the make and model of your car. You may have an insurance policy that will cover the cost of your windshield replacement, and if this is the case, we are on hand to help you with your insurance claim.
Do I Need Windshield Repair or a Windshield Replacement?
To determine whether you need a windshield repair or a windshield replacement, you should look at these three factors:
Windshield Repair or Windshield Replacement: Location
If the chip or crack extends to the outer edge of the windshield, it will need replacing entirely as the integrity of the screen is compromised. The outer edge accounts for 60% of the strength of the windshield, so it’s imperative to get it replaced if this is the case, so you’re protected if you have an accident.
If the damage is in the driver’s line of sight, it must be replaced, because even a perfect repair could lead to a distortion of your view.
A windshield must also be replaced if there has been damage done to an assisting sensor, such as a rain sensor because they can’t be repaired. The glass around the sensor must be completely clear for one of these sensors to function correctly, which may not be the case if the windshield is simply repaired.
Windshield Repair or Windshield Replacement: Size
Small chips, under a quarter inch, and cracks three inches or less can be quickly and easily repaired. If a chip is over three inches wide or a crack is more than fourteen inches long, the windshield will likely have to be replaced instead of a repair.
This size limit will vary depending on where the chip or crack is located on the windshield, as stated above.
Windshield Repair or Windshield Replacement: Depth
A windshield consists of two layers of glass with a thin layer of plastic sandwiched in the middle. If the damage gets right the way through to the inside layer of glass, this means that the chip or crack is too deep to be safely repaired, and so the windshield must be replaced.
However, if only the top layer of glass has been damaged, we can easily repair your windshield.
